Corrosive ammo and range etiquette

My wife and I are thinking about going to an Appleseed event with our 91/30's, since they're the closest things we've got to battle rifles. I'm gonna pick up some Yugo ammo, and am wondering how one goes about neutralizing the salts while at a range. I presume that a lot of folks would be irked by milsurp shooters just running windex or ballistol down their bores and letting it drip onto the ground. Do you bring a bucket and cart out your waste?

Hmmm, I never really thought about it. You could just bring some paper towels to soak up the mess if you're worried about what the windex would do to the environment.

Currently use the ballistol and bore snake combo at the range. Once I get home, 4 cups of hot tap water down the bore. Then, I dip a clean patch into my hot water with dawn solution - punch that into the bore. That's my primary degreaser - soap and water. Then, I oil the bore with auto tranny fluid, light coat of gun oil on the outside, all is good.

At one time, at the range, I brought a thermos with hot water. Ran the water down the bore from breech to muzzle, used a bore snake to dry it up.

I even kept the rifle in the case after shooting - did not clean it for a week, no rust, no issue. OTOH, YMMV . . .

With three 98ks in my care, I do not worry about the corrosion thing.

Depends on the range. In an indoor range, I use a gatorade bottle, but at the outdoor range, just let it drip. How much Windex you gonna use?
I bet cleaning two rifles will generate less than a 1/4 cup of waste.

I can't see anyone caring. I could see people getting bent if you dumped a bunch of Hoppes #9 on the ground, but Windex is mostly water. If it bothers you, do what I do, bring a baggie of patches and a cleaning rod, and collect the patches when you are done.

Some soapy water you mixed up yourself and placed in a used spray bottle works just fine too.

I can't imagine anyone being upset with you getting water on the ground.

i think this is a non issue

i just dump the windex onto the ground. An RO watched me and didnt say anything at burro. Youre GTG

I can't really see why you would be concerned about a little dirty water dripping onto the ground when you're going to be throwing lead all over the place anyway...

I plug the bore with some papertowel, then spray away with some generix windex in an old sunny delight squirt bollte. Let it sit and just open it over the garbage can. A quick scrub and patch... spray some rem oil in there and Im good. If it was a long day of shooting, I sometimes do a more thouough cleaning back home. But thats been just a few times over the years.

I dont normally "pour" lots of solution through it... you dont need to flush it, just need to neutralize the salts. Maybe Ive just been lucky, but so far so good
