    Name this Spam

I just picked this ammo up at Lock Stock 'n Barrel in Temple City. I know it's 8mm. Does anyone know anything else about it? Where is it from? What does it shoot like?

Well 7.92 is very close to 8mm but in actual measurement its not 8mm.

    8mm is 0.3150" 7.94 is 0.3125 7.92 = 0.311"

      Is it safe to shoot?

So can I safely shoot it in my Yugo 24/47?

        Whats your barrel bore ?

What size projectiles have you shot in it before ?

Did the last box state 7.92 or 8mm ? its close but its not 8mm

        0.3150 - 0.311= .004 difference. its .004 thousands smaller than 8mm.

uh Sam- 7.92 is the military designation for 8mm mauser ammo.

Cato yes that ammo should shoot fine in your 24/47 just remember that it is probably corrosively primed and clean accordingly. Unfortunately I do not know which country is is from.If its from the recent supply of 8mm from century it is either yugoslavian or romanian. When you open the tin if it is brass case and has the nny headstamp it is yugoslavian if it is steel cased it is probably romanian.

                Yes you can.

Please don't mind SemiAutoSam. He must have stumbled in here by mistake. Although his theory about 7.92mm being slightly smaller than 8.00mm is quite fascinating. He probably didn't realize that you were talking about 8mm Mauser ammo when you said the ammo was 8mm. He'll be back soon with some links to wikipedia to clear it all up for us.

The bullet is 154 grain copper plated steel jacket over lead, with an iron core. Cases are laquered steel. Primers are corrosive. The powder burns kind of sooty. Sure fire ammo, but not very accurate in most rifles.

The ammo is loaded a little bit light. The light load combined with the steel case sometimes leads to a bit of gas blowback when the cases don't completely obdurate in the chamber. You'll notice blackened case necks on the fired casings.

AIM Surplus still has it for sale if you want more.

I got the can opener since it was the last can they had. It did look really cool like that!

I'd call Sam a n00b, but he has WAY MORE GUNS THAN ME.
