    Colt Walker

I'd like to get a Colt Walker replica muzzle loader. Before buying online I would like to see one in person. Anyone know if they have them at Bass Pro in Modesto or Cabelas in Reno? Obviously none of the local bay area shops I've been to have any.

Also since it is a muzzle loader is it cash and carry with no waiting period? I assume that since I can have it shipped to my home that if I purchase in Reno I will be able to take it home without having to have it sent to a California FFL.

Finally, when going to the range does it need to be locked in a case. I.e. is it considered a handgun even though it is black powder? I have a Remington New Army that I built about 25 years ago that I'd like to take to the range sometime in the near future.

Thanks for any tips and info..

Don't know where exactly you can see one up there, but try some gun stores that sell older guns; they might sell replicas too. Yes, it is cash and carry, but yes it is a firearm according to the State so you do have to lock it up on the way to the range. For much more info on black powder go here:

Not much to look at. Same as a Navy or Army only about half again bigger and almost twice as heavy!

Oh, and if you put it in a holster, it will pull your pants down to your knees! Unless you have suspenders!

      Just kidding!

Colt Walkers are way cool.....an Original would have an outrageous price tag One sold for nearly a million dollars not long ago. (To Tall Ship) They are huge. The most powerful pistol built until the advent of the 44 mag by Elmer Keith in the 50's. The problem is, even the replicas are expensive compared to other Colt reproductions and they are not popular with the Cowboy shooters because of there enormous size. 4 1/2 lbs as I remember. I saw one at Bass Pro a couple of months ago (Manteca)

I have always been uncomfortable with the unsupported loading lever on these guns. It seems like they would fall loose and jam the cylinder. I am sure that there is something that I am missing.

                  MY CLUB

its 16 1/2 inches long and 4 1/2lbs empty. when shooting full loads it sets off car alarms in the parking lot at angeles ranges. being the size that it is you can shoot one handed but not practical its just too heavy. the cylinder is about 1 inch wider than a regular bp revolver and almost twice the length. you got to remember until the massive revolvers of the 1950's were made this was the largest revolver in the world

Old West Gun shop in El Cerrito had a couple on consignment. You might want to give Bob a call and ask if he still has them.
