Kimber Model 82 .22LR from CMP

Gleaned from their web page.Would this be legal to be shipped to your door.DOJ says no,CMP says according to their site it is ok.

These rifles were produced for the U.S. Army between 1987 and 1990. Although these are still in the original manufacturer's packaging and have never been used, many of the stocks, barrels, and receivers may have a light scratches or razor cuts from when the protective bags were opened to conduct serial number inventory in the mid-90's. This is a minor cosmetic deficiency that detracts slightly from the appearance, but does not effect the functioning of the rifle. This single shot .22LR has an overall weight of 10.75 lbs, a length of 43 inches, an adjustable trigger, three butt plate spacers, and a hand stop assembly. Rifle is complete with a Kimber rear aperature sight, a front sight with ten inserts, and the original technical manual. These rifles are shipped as received by the CMP. Shipping and Handling $22.95 per rifle.

It falls under the exemption granted to the CMP by congress for military surplus. I managed to get one for the "used" price of $150 in January from CMP. A very sweet shooter. I've been shooting 5's within less than a 2 inch circle at 100 yards. The used ones didn't come with sights so I'm using a cheapo Tasco 4X off of my Marlin Model 60 until I can scrape up enough for the real peep sites.

The problems with the Kimbers is that there are no spare parts avaiable for them.. The rifle is also not a 4 position shooting rifle......

The Kimber M82 is military surplus by definition of the conditions where firearms are given to the CMP for sale to the public to fund CMP programs.

The only firearms that require a 01FFL that the CMP sells are the commercial firearms, which only currently comprise of the Anschutz rifles they advertise.

I was planning to buy one as well. What prevents it from being used in all 4 positions?
