I have a Mosin Nagant M44 with a pretty dark bore and an M1 Garand but the M1 bore is very light. Is there any way I can get the bores to shine up without doing any permament damage?

What have you done to clean the Mosin bore so far? There are many bore cleaning products on the market, how many have you tried?
You can also try an electric bore cleaner. Here's the one I made.

A Calguns member made an electric bore cleaner recently and he told me it worked real well for him.Revolvers are not pistols
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel

See the link I posted earlier http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews/copperout/index.asp
It uses electric current to remove copper and lead from inside the bore by plating them to a steel rod inserted in the bore. If the current is run the other way it can remove rust from inside the bore http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/vie...p?f=80&t=62728
You can buy commercial versions of the same device if you don't want to make one

I've found that 2 or 3 hundred FMJ projectiles driven down the bore at 2500+ feet per second brightens up an old bore nicely. No, I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.Comment

brush, swap, shoot. then just do a normal clean and see how it looks. believe it or not, sometimes a bore just needs some rounds down it to loosen things up. thumbs up Gavin.Comment

Have you actually shot it yet? Some Mosins actually prefer to be a little fouled

I just made an electric bore cleaner using an old cell phone charger, 2 binder clips, 36" length of steel rod, windex, shrink tubing, and a rubber stopper, total cost under $5. Its down in the garage working like a champ right now!!!
BTW I already had everything but the rod and stopper"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them.
