C&R on handguns

I need some clarification:

(1) C&R handguns, 50+ years old , buying or selling ... must do a PPT xfer through a dealer, correct?

(2) The exemption only applies to 50+ year old long gun/rifle, which can be sold to a private party CA resident, cash & carry, correct?

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom, advice you can give.

Penal Code 12078
(t)(2) Subdivision (d) and paragraph (1) of subdivision (f) of Section 12072 shall not apply to the infrequent sale, loan, or transfer of a firearm that is not a handgun, which is a curio or relic manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations, or its successor.

C&R handguns don’t require private-party transfers. They are exempt from the roster, so dealers may order and stock them for common subjects.

M.D.VanN -- I believe the question was in regard to transfers from one "common subject" to another -- that does require a PPT through a CA dealer.

Correct. I misread the intent of the question. Almost all handgun transfers require a dealer in California.

I read if you are a c&r licensee, you can purchase a c&r handgun ftf from a person or dealer and bring it back w/o a transfer to a california ffl and just enter it into the bound book and send the paperwork into batfe. Is this correct? I read this in another forum for c&r holders.

Purchase outside the state and bring it back, yes.

Not quite, You may purchase out of state and import for your collection. You enter it into your federal A&D book -- but send nothing to BATF&E. You are required to file a form (FD 4100A) with CA DOJ reporting the handgun and pay a $19 fee. It becomes registered to you the same as if you had gone through a DROS process.
