Does anyone know what happened to Clancy?

I don't know why I thought about this just now, but something reminded me of Clancy. I just remembered all of the posts he used to make in this forum about the M1 Garand and it's history. He used to post some really unique and interesting stuff, and then he just disappeared one day. Does anyone know what happened to him? He may have passed away, and if he did then may he RIP. I never heard where he went or what happened to him.

IIRC, Ed left because he was frustrated that there was not as much interest on M1 Garands on our C&R forum, so he probably posts on other places now.

His website and books should still be available

To be fair to Ed, there is not a whole lot of C&R interest on this entire forum.

I'd buy that explanation. I remember back when I was a junior member I always used to see his threads and usually nobody responded to them. I think the problem was his Garand threads were a bit too esoteric for the average Garand owner.

Yea, same here. I guess it does make sense that he chose to quit posting here, but it seems weird that he just disappeared without a farewell or goodbye.

I've noticed he's gone too and it's too bad. I don't have nearly enough knowledge to responde intelligently to his posts, but I always enjoyed reading them.

He posted some extremely interesting history; I always appreciated it.

Let's just say he was VERY frustrated with our lack of interest in esoteric M1 Garand information.

Curio & Relic/Black Powder is my first stop on CalGuns. This forum got me started in collecting C&Rs....

My first interest is in C&R firearms, but I don't need to know every little detail about every firearm. Clancy's posts, while somewhat interesting, were a bit over the top. You'd have to be a Garand fanatic to get into his stuff.

esoteric can't even describe some of his information.

To date, I'm still shocked about the invention of the spongy grease dabber inside the op-rod had so much effect on the longevity of a Garand rifle.

Unfortunately he is in a niche and needs to find the same corresponding niche for the type of response he was looking for.

Email him. His website link is at the top of this page.
Really though, while interesting, his style of informational commentary never seemed to elicit a response.
He may be over at ParrallaxBill's or Jousters.

I am a mod on Parallax Bill's Milsurpshooter.com site, and Ed has not been posting over there for quite a while either. Ed has always been a bit...sensitive...to lack of response to his posts.

Hope nothing has happened to him.

I think it's easy for someone to not realize how interesting their post may be to people if they simply look for how many people who post replies.

The fact is information posted on Calguns gets indexed into Google almost immediately. If you go to google.com and search on a gun subject you almost always see a link to calguns (if it was talked about here).

There are many people who simply read the post without replying. Plus if those who click on and read his posts are not logged in, it may not register as a "view" on the statistics.

Exactly. I would almost always read his posts, but often chose not to respond due to the fact that I didn't have the knowhow to give an intelligent response. I thought I was the only one who thought his posts were a little arcane at times (alright, most of the time), but now I see that is more the norm than the exception.

Read some of his posts....not sure how to respond. Many of them are just scans of paperwork, with simple and uninviting titles that didn't really convey the message that he wanted some back and forth.
