Help: Remington Rand or Ithaca frame?

Hello,
I about to purchase this but need to verify if this is an original Remington Rand or a mixmaster Remington slide with Ithaca frame. I did my research with the marking and everythng was there like the HS mark on the barrel( the G's, P's and other stuff). Im just getting confused with the frame, I cant find detailed info on how to identify Remingtons and Ithacas frame.

If I decide to purchase this ($500) it is reasonable? It has no mags,box,papers. And also I would like to shoot a couple of round through it, Can it handle 230gr. or should i go lighter?

At $500 it is certainly reasonable. If the recoil spring is still close to spec then it should have no problems at all with 230 gr. ball rounds. That is exactly what it was designed to shoot. It will probably not be 100% reliable with much else, but there are exceptions. When you own it put a whole new spring kit it in it. While you are doing that do a complete tear down and give it a thorough clean and lube. It should be a hoot to shoot after that.

At $500 why ask when you should be counting out the money. Buy the pistol it is a great price. Take it home and spend some quality time investigating the gun. There are very few matching guns because the military would clean many at a time and reassemble them as just parts.

OK, got out my copy of Clawson's book Colletor's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1. Page 49 of the 1993 edition. The serial number range "916405 to about 1016000" with the underlined letter "o' in "No" are assigned to Remington Rand. Plus "Ordinance 'crossed cannon' inspection cartouche" -- which your photo seems to show.

IMHO -- you have a correct frame.

Thanks for the info. I was able to take it for $450.00. Now I'll be in pursuit to get at least one original magazine. Any place to get one? How much am I looking at?

First Question is, what's original. Perhaps the most desirable magazine would be one made by General Shaver, a division of Remington Rand. The General Shaver magazine has a spot welded seam down the back of the magazine. The upper lip of the floor plate should be stamped "G". The General Shaver, if you can locate one, might go for over $50.

Second most desirable would probably be the Scovill magazine with an "S" on the upper lip of the floor plate.

Both are scarce and may take some time and patience to locate one.

Frankly, any WWII period magazine would complete your RR 1911A1.
