    Desert Day!

I took the K98 and the SVT40 out for a nice field test out in the middle of nowhere up the 14 today past lancaster.

For the past 6mos i've had a cardboard life size target that i've just been dying to shoot at, because when the zombie apocalypse finally happens they're not going to be shaped like metal elk/deer and watermelons, which are the shapes i normally shoot at.

finally got to put some holes in it, and got to do rapid fire with the svt40, which i'd never gotten to do before. 7.62x54r at rapid semi auto fire is not at all unfun.

    The pics:

    the virgin target:

the target from about half way down the hill:

firing position. the target is directly left of the rear sight

    after rougly 60rds

not great, but not bad from a standing position at ~200yrds either.

there was an old propane tank out there too which had been shot to pieces, i had fun on that too since it made the metal "plink!" when you hit it. while noone was where we were, evidently i'm not the only one who thinks its a great place to shoot, the place was littered with the flotsam and jetsam of shooting, lots of broken glass, shotgun shells, empty casings, and from the looks of it, much of it had been there for a long time!

    anyways, good fun!

Nice shooting. See if you can get a poster of that race car driver from the Extenze commercials for your next target.

Good job, BTW what does yout SVT40 do to steel targets? My Mosin will blow a clean hole through 3/8 inch steel.

I go shooting in that area as well, my place has a lot of real trash (old mattresses, toilets, etc.).
