Field Stripping Turkish Mauser. Having problems.

This is my Turkish Mauser and I want to take it apart to make sure everythings clean. I've fired it but I don't no if there is rust or anything, and I'm bored and would like to disassemble it.

    I followed this guide: http://www.surplusrifle.com/mausertu...mbly/index.asp

And I'm stuck on Figure 7 - 9. I did it exactly with the clamps and all that but I can't get the Upper Band off.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    -Thanks.

With the quick clamps on keeping that little pin recessed I got a wooden dowel and starting tapping on the band. It moved slowly at first but did finally come off. Good luck.....

I was hitting it so hard the wooden dowels were breaking. Its stuck good. I clamped it as tight as I could. Any way to like loosen it? I think it was once a Big 5 rifle. Has some cosmoline on it. A lot as been cleaned off. Maybe some of that got in there and thats why it won't come off?

Did you put a punch under the clamp to press the spring below the level of the wood as shown in the article?
If you did, you might need to use some penetrating oil like Kroil to loosen any rust or crud sticking the upper band to the barrel and/or stock.
          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Yes I put a punch in there. I also could notice the pin move down, which is why I don't no why the upper band didn't come off. I think there may be some left over cosmoline and idk what else in there, I can't see any rust but you never no I guess.

if its cosmo sticking it, heat it up with a hair dryer or something.

That piece was a bear on my Turk also. I kept breaking dowels. I took a flat metal punch with a small piece of bicycle inner tube and a cople good whaps with the hammer got it done. Its still tight but not as bad as it was whn I got it.

Hmmm I'll give that a try. Just didn't want to damage the wood on it. But using the Bicycle inner tube is a smart idear.

on some crappier rifles I have used a flat tip screw driver and hammer to knock parts loose. if you care about looks then try brass.

dremil works in a pintch to if you wanna cut it off. you can get a replacement cheap. my turk wasn't exactly a prized catch though.

I also used a bunch of brake cleaner before to get rid of cozmoline on metal

Mine is not that great. My Grandpa bought it at a gun show a long time ago and gave it to me awhile back, like none of the parts match and its pretty beat up.

The retainer bar needs to depress about 1/8 of an inch. Use a C clamp and a correct sized piece of hardwood for enough pressure to depress the retainer. Be careful to protect the stock and the barrel. The band will tap off easily when clear of the retainer.

rubber mallet and a soft metal cheepo flat head screw driver, that how I got my m48 apart, it did not mess the metal up at all, but my metal is pretty beat
