Hello. I have a friend who want to sell his Remington Rand marked US Army. I'm no expert on this. Is there a local shop in Los Angeles preferably closer to Valencia area or the Valley area that can check the correct markings. What could be the possible market value? Thanks for the info.

A gun store will try to pay as little as possible for it, they have to make a profit selling it, so they will try to buy low and sell high. Just as a point of reference I bought an original 1945 Remington-Rand 1911 about a year ago for $1300. I got a decent deal on it seeing how it is in 98% original finish and it should have gone for $1400-$1500ish.Comment

Photos would help. Plus, if you have a camera that can be set to Macro, get close ups of the proof marks on the barrel, around the disconnector and under the firing pin retainer.
I believe I am correct to say that Remington Rand was the first to harden the breech face of the slide.
As already stated, there are CG'ers who can identify correctness and condition.
One of the best books on Collecting the 1911 is Clawson's book.

Don't be surprised if it turns out to have a mix of parts on it. The military did not make an effort to keep firearms 'original. Each time it went through a repair or rebuild whatever parts were handy is what it would get.Comment

If the slide is marked Remington Rand, you need to check the serial #
on the frame to see if the serial falls into numbers for the RR. Also
under the slide stop should be the inials "FJA"--if those initials are not
there it's not a Remington Rand---even IF they are there--the pistol
frame could still be an Ithaca---the serial on the frame is the only way
