HELP!!

So yesterday i decided to go shooting. i took a couple guns out of my safe. one of them being my mosin nagant. doing what i always do, i put one of those cable locks on them before going to the range. when i finally get there, i start getting ready (pulling my guns out, and pulling my ammo out) then i realize my keys are missing i start looking around everywhere, and no luck. so i just went home. couldnt find them at home either . what should i do? i have these 2 rifles that are basically useless now! should i pull my dremel out and try to cut the cable? or should i pound the lock with my sledgehammer? its been about a day, and thats the only thing i can think of!!!

Help!! ideas! anything!!

if you are gonna buy new locks dremel those suckers, be done with it.

their just cheap 5 dollar cable locks from walmart. im just wondering if the dremel will be able to cut it?

A dremel Will cut anything... Break that bad boy out! It should only take a few min then go get another set from wally world. Also I would keep all of the lock keys on a key chain in your shooting bag, and keep an extra set at home. Good luck!

Another vote for the dremel with the cutting tool. You should be good to go.

dunno if I should be teaching people how to defeat these useless locks, but basically you need channel locks to crush the cable. That will break the armored part and expose the stranded cable underneath. You can get through that with a cutting disk.

Don't feel bad, I've locked myself out of my rifles before too.

Pliers work pretty well too. Believe there's a few videos on YouTube showing exactly how simple/fast it is to defeat these locks. Even a child could do it.

So that begs the question...why are you locking up your long guns for transport? There are no laws requiring that. Just have them unloaded and you're good to go. Even uncased.

Pliers and Bolt Cutters will work fine for the armored part, but the stranded cable underneath will require shears or cutting disk.

A couple of years ago at Spenceville that happened to a guy and his young son who were shooting beside me. He took another gun and shot the lock off. Scared the **** out of me and I told him in no uncertain terms he was an idiot for doing it, plus endangering everyone around him.
He actually apologized later.

you might be suprised at how many of those "locks" share the same key... I carry a "springfield" lock in my truck as a key ring for all of the range keys we use for the various ranges we do business with.. and on the "ring" is a key to the springer lock... which has been used to unlock "ruger" locks and various other locks... try a different key...

i had a similar probelm once and had to talk myself out of shooting it off with my nagant

i did cut open one cable lock before. wire cutters, chizels, hammers, pry bars, hacksaw.... man that thing was tougher then i gave it credit for. i didnt have a dremil though but if i did it would have been my first choice, followed closely by an angle gringer
