    Enfield proofmarks

I was looking at my sons No4 mk4* savage Enfield. It is marked FTR which I know what that means but there is a star stamped on the barrel. So what does the star mean?

FTR = Factory Through Repair. It means the rifle was rebuilt/reconditioned at an arsenal.

              Ownership/acceptance mark for Indonesia.
              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Peter Laidler is a British Armourer and author who actually worked on the Enfield rifles in Malaysia.

Great site everyone. After reading for hours I have a couple marks I cant figure out. No4 mk1* savage. I figured out the FTR but there is a B stamp below that and a star stamp on the barrel.
