    Just got my C&R license

I just recieved my license in the blue envelope and it took around 4 wks to get to me. I don't technically have the funds to actually use my license yet, but I was wondering if I could submit my license to vendors right now and be verified as having the license, or do I have to submit my license everytime I buy a firearm?

You can just send an ink signed copy to all the appropriate vendors. It is best to do this anyway since they'll either create an account for you and/or put you on their mailing list so you get all their dealer ads and what not.

Don't forget Midway, Grafs, and Brownells. Create and account with Midway and Brownells first, then be sure to note your customer number when you mail/fax your C&R to Midway and Brownells. Then they upgrade your account status.

Here's the text of the example letter from Cruffler.com that many of us send to Dealers along with a copy of our FFL...

      Dear Sir or Madam:

Enclosed please find a signed copy of my Type 03, Curio and Relics, Federal Firearms License. Please keep this on file so that we may do business in the future. Also,if you would send me a copy of your latest catalogue or sales flyer, and place me on the mailing list for same, I would be most appreciative. With kindest regards, I remain,

      Very truly yours,

      I.M. Gonnacollect
It's also a good idea to include your email address and ask them to add you to their email list if they have one. Sometimes Dealers will have quick sales on limited stock items and if you have to wait to mail them a copy of your FFL then you might miss out. Having a copy already on file with most of the big C&R dealers is a smart move.

You can photocopy your license and the above letter onto one 8.5x11 piece of paper.

Will the ATF send me a bound book together with the other documents, or I have to purchase/print it somewhere?

ATF won't send you a bound book. You can buy one from Brownells or print one up yourself and keep it in a 3 ring binder. Here's a link to a thread from a couple of weeks ago where I posted some links to bound book pages you can print up...

You absolutely should send copies of your license now. The last thing you want to do is wait to send them out and then the C&R dealer of your choice has the rifle you want but you can't buy it that day because they don't have your record on file yet.

Also, many vendors seem to prefer or request non-black ink so that your license doesn't look like a photocopy version.
