    Enemy At The Gates:

I happened to be watching this movie a few days ago, every since my interest in the Mosin-Nagants spike I watch it once in a while, though I digress.

I happened to be looking up videos on YouTube (I do alot of that), came across some videos on Vassili Zaitsev, some of you may have seen these before but they are new to me and I thought I'd post them here.

These are in Russian with the exception of the last, the narrator speaks in English, though there is text on the other two that give a good breakdown of what the first two videos are about.

    Enjoy

I'd say Band of Brothers did a pretty good job, of matching Saving Private Ryan, and its a series that covers the war.

And the BoB folks have just finished "PACIFIC" which will be airing on HBO next month.
So maybe they'll do the Eastern front next?
Though they'd likely want to continue with the American side of the story with the North African campagn, or some such thing?

Have you seen the movie 9th company, it's a cross between Full Metal Jacket and Platoon.

I forgot about the Pacific coming out, I'm ordering HBO just for that, can't wait! hahaha.

That would be cool a series on the Eastern Front, or North Africa, ideas are flowing now. Time to email HBO. hahaha lol.

                yes, BoB is freakin' excellent!

But, its a 10hr miniseries, not a movie. Or even a series of movies. So they take the time to examine many aspects of army life in detail, from the challenges of military leadership, to how hard it is to pull the trigger as a rifleman, to the life of a medic, integrating as a replacement, what happens when your infantry and armor don't liaise correctly, etc. BoB is fantastic, sure!

                But it ain't a movie.

i wish they'd remake all quiet on the western front. I'd love to see ww1 style infantry attacks on a wide front, now that they could film those shots with CG soldiers to make it look right.

which reminds me, i need to get a gew98 and berthier long rifle...

Are there any series or movies in the works showing the German side of War? There is a book that my Opa had me read called "Grenadiers"...it was written by his General he served under in Normandy (yes my Opa was in the 1st SS LAH then later 12th SS HJ as an Officer), Kurt Meyer. I would love to see that come to life!

Well I no how that feels, I do WW2 Reenacting and being new they treat you as a replacement and even though you and the enemy are only shooting blanks, your still have a scared feeling, unlike the guys who have been there for years.

the Pacific is pretty serious, but it is different than BoB. Letters from Iwo Jima and to a slightly lesser extent, Flags of Our Fathers, are pretty accurate films as well.

The bar was set damn high with SPR though.
