I'm just going to wait and see what the letter contains. I'll update when received.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

my CLEO called me up too, mostly because he had no idea what this "thing" he was looking at was...

so i had about a 45 minute conversation about what a C&R license will do for me. Now HE'S gonna apply for one...

Sent the CLEO and FFL C&R application together, no cover letter on either. Received FFL 4 wks later. Received FFL literature 4.5 weeks later.

Completed Live Scan CoE application and did the Live Scan the next day after sending the FFL app.s in. Received CoE 10 days after.

I got a call from the Police Dept (Santa Clara, CA). They received my 03 C&R application and informed me that they require me to purchase a gun safe, or they won't approve my application...

Sssshhhh... just let them believe they can do that.

They actually don't "approve" these things... the copy to them is an informational-only thing.

They probably have their wires crossed and are thinking you're a 01 guy.

Your police department has no authority to deny your C&R application because they aren't the ones that approve it.

When I received my letter the CLEO was more concerned with my place of business and code enforcement. I had to go to his office and show him the C&R and explain that what he had done was waste his resources on a background check and administrative efforts.

His response "Oh, ok. We'll just keep a copy of this in your file."

The police can only request your license not be approved if you do not meet local or county zoning restrictions. I don't think there are any laws or regulations in any California city that regulate private collectors with a C&R license.

They police no grounds to deny an application. They may request that it not be approved, but the ATF cannot deny you because your local police department doesn't want you to have one.
