DO NOT PUT A SCOPE AND MOUNT ON THAT WEAPON!!!! That is a very limited rifle! The Soviets only produced them for so long and there arent many left! Thats just my opinion....
!!WANT TO BUY and looking for shooter/beater/reenacting grade German Waffen proofed handguns from the WWII era. I just want shooters, Im not looking to spend oodles of money, I just want shootable examples to play with!!

!!!Also looking for a shooter/rack grade USGI M1 Carbine (Earlier the date the better)!!!

why not? its not anything that takes drilling or otherwise alters the originality. not like i'm talking about "sporterficating" it.

actually that scope mount will only "partially work". On the actual Sniper SVT's there was a notch on the top of the rear reciever that a crosspin would push into/sit in locking the scope mount to the rifle. But I have heard/read of many people getting these to lock into place without using the crosspin on gunboards, but obviously YMMV.

I always encounter guys not wanting to show pics of the notch for some unknown reason to me - Perhaps due to fakes?

sure, private message me if you want. there are lots of guys on this board who know loads about everything...

as to CMP, i got all qualified to order from there, but ended up not doing so. i could've but when i was getting ready to i lost my second job so my extra gun budget money dried up for a bit and i had to wait.

that's awesome you've got opas gewehr...kannst du auch deutsch? if he surrendered, how did he get to keep his gun, what's the story there? where was he from? i love the stories the germans tell about their relatives. sometimes they're hard to listen to, but they're always fascinating.

                        Yes, exactly.
Many SVT rifles were cut with scope mount grooves, few were turned into "snipers."
                        Mine:

Not sure how one would easily attach the scope mount without cutting the rear notch for the retaining pin, but it could be done, of course.

If the rifle has the rails on the sides of the reciever, you can still mount the scope mount as it is pretty tight to begin with. the notch/grooves on the otp of the reciever are not really neccessary for what we all use these rifles for and put these rifles through.
