Is CMP eligibility that difficult? No more excuses.

I keep hearing that buying from the CMP is too much of a hassle.
Let's go over these easy steps.

#1: Do you have a copy of your Birth Certificate?
You should have one for your records anyway, and
for the majority of people, this covers the Citizenship
and Age requirements


#2: Do you belong to the California Rifle and Pistol Association?
This meets the Membership in CMP Affiliated Organization
requirement and you can sign up online at http://www.crpa.org/


#3: Do you go shooting at a range or go shooting with any Law Enforcement Officers?
If you do, use this form. http://www.odcmp.com/forms/marksmanship.pdf
You have now met the Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity
requirement. Having a 03 FFL also fills this requirement.


#4: Are you legally able to purchase a firearm?
Pretty self explanatory.


That's it folks, pretty simple. Now download a order form, http://www.thecmp.org/formsindex.htm fill it out and get it notarized.
Usually any of those small postal stores have notary services. This only
has to be done with your first order and then it is good for three years.


The CMP is getting ready to start letting you order a rifle online and holding it while you send in your paperwork, they are also expected to have some really nice Garands after the first of the year. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.

Reading up on it now, 22 bucks per year, or 325 for a lifetime membership!

The GCA fulfills the requirement for CMP affiliation, and they get your membership status to the CMP pretty quickly.

For the other requirement, you could do what I did. Send off for your 03 FFL (C&R). It costs $30 and is good for 3 years. The discounts and bypassing FFL fees when you ship longarms direct to your home will pay back the application fee very quickly.

Being a veteran also fulfills the firearm related activity requirement.

Does anyone know how much the going rate is for a Gunsmith to assemble the Garand??

active, reserve, or retired military fulfills club membership and marksman requirements. also dd214(discharge papers) fulfills marksmanship requirements, and vfw or american legion take care of club membership. its really easy especially if you are military or prior service. so easy in fact i got all my paper work together and sent out 10,000 miles from home.

Do it yourself, it's easy. Not sure if you are looking into getting a barreled receiver and a parts kit but it is way cheaper to just buy a complete one from the CMP.

Aside from putting the barrel on the receiver I think I can go from a 100% torn down Garand and build it back up in 15-20 minutes. Tons of tutorials out there and the CMP's website has some pretty good ones.

if you've got a C&R, just join this. they send you some periodicals a few times a year, and this fulfills the req. to be able to get the rifles from the CMP.

I cant believe how many different types of guns there are, sniper grade, correct grade, rack grade, field grade, service grade, special grade!!!!! I love it!!!

being lazy can cost you $300-400 for one M-1 Garand for one hours worth of work, and as long as your feeding the scalpers the longer they hang around. Same with the Ammo, buy CMP and then shoot an Appleseed. Now you can afford two or even a Carbine with some History behind it.
