    1911 Build

Has anyone built a C&R 1911 I am considering building one. I have to admit that I have no idea where to start like getting a frame. How hard is it to build one of these. Any good web sites on where to start looking? I have found some parts through Shotgun news. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you do have to start with a frame just like building a car for example. How familiar are you with the 1911? Have you ever field stripped one? If so, have you ever done and modifications like change the hammer or put on an adjustable trigger? There are a couple of books you might want to check out,"The Colt .45 Automatic, a shop manual" & "The U.S. M1911/M1911A1 Pistols &Commercial type Pistols A Shop Manual". Those two books are written by Jerry Kuhnhausen. They are great books with all sorts of info. There are parts kits to make your own 1911 through "Brownell's" and "Sarco." Thats just a couple of resources. www.brownells.com www.sarcoinc.com As for buiding a C&R 1911 it won't be worth as much as an original. But, it can be worth alot to the person that put it together. PRIDE of doing so.

So far, I have done one build based on an Argentine m1927.

This was an inexpensive alternative to working on a vintage U.S. m1911A1, though I’ve made no permanent modifications to the pistol.

The full report is on my website.

I don't get it. How do you build a C&R?

C&R's are what they are because they are +50 years old, or have been explicitly listed as being C&R's.

Or are there some kits out there that I'm not aware of and need to start buying?

Ever consider doing an 80% 1911?

I've been drooling over doing one. Just don't have the funds together for it yet. KTordnance.com has 80% frames for 1911's that I've been looking at for a few years.

I believe that PowderBurn was asking about building a custom 1911-style pistol on a C&R frame.
