    What Is This Thing??

My uncle has an old S&W revolver we are trying to identify but having little luck so far. Here's what we do have to have:

On the original box it says: S&W .38/32 CTG 2" Blue
On the barrel it's marked: .38 S&W CTG
    The serial number is: 53816

The gun is in excellent condition with little wear. My uncle claims he has owned the gun for 30 years... bought it from guy who owned 40 years before which, assuming the original owner bought it new, would date the thing 1939.

Can anyone shed some more insight on this thing??

    Thanks

    Mo

Could be 38/32 Terrier "I frame" 38 S&W your S/N would put it in the (Pre-War) category.

That is a .38/.32 Terrier in .38 S&W, which is not a .38 S&W Special. I agree is is most likely a pre-War gun based on the serial number. In 1957 it became the Model 32.

correct if it is a round butt. It could also be a 38 regulation police, if it's a square butt

It is a round butt...what is the value? I know it's subjective but figure it's in 95% condition in box.

The gun is at my uncles place...will work on a picture but it seems likely it is a .38/32 Terrier since it has a round butt.
