M95 Steyr conversion

    Little known is that the 7.62x54Rmm CAN be shot in an M.95 chambered in the M93 O-Patrone (8x50Rmm) WITHOUT a conversion.
    In WWI, the 54R was said to be used in the M.95 in emergency situations.

    Now, would I try it? eh, probably not. But I can see during war time situations, you'll use what works, and which that, it does.
    Although, highly inaccurate as the video demonstrates due to the much smaller .312" boat-tail projectile.

    In fact, there was a recent post on Gunboards about it.

    I've seen this question pop up a couple of times on Gun message boards. I myself have asked it on Gunboards. After finding an 8x50 M95 and 8x50 ammunition I decided to test 7.62 in the rifle and compare the performance with 8x50mmR. Here's the video. It's a bit long but you can see the results...
