help take my garand apart

Got my first garand from cmp and wanted to take it apart for a cleaning before i took her out on the first trip. I looked on youtube and saw that you have to take the trigger guard off. But thats the problem i'm having. It seems that its really stuck and wont budge. Is there a trick to doing this? thanks for the help guys.

I've used a screw driver on the stubborn ones. Whoops maybe I should give a better description. I don't start prying at the trigger guard with the screwdriver. I place a big screwdriver through the rear of the trigger guard, it lets me get more leverage.

Pull the back of the trigger guard and towards the rear and then with the tension on the trigger guard, swivel it out (where the front of the trigger guard is the swivel). I've had some really tight trigger guards that required me to use a small rope in order to get a decent grip on something.

Turn the gun over and insert a dowel or other long round object (you can use a live 30-06 round) between the back of the trigger and the rear of the trigger guard. Wrap your two middle fingers around the dowel and pull the trigger guard back and up in one motion. This should pop the guard loose thus freeing up the housing.

If you have a new CMP stock, it can be really tight. Also, putting it back together may be near impossible if the stock swells.

That is personal experience talking BTW.

thanks for the info guys. I'm just gonna have to put more elbow grease into her. I guess she gets tight again when nobody fingers her for a while
