How much would a M1A1 go for if its not working? I mean I just want to collect it and put it on a platform.

M1A1 Thompson SMG or M1A1 Carbine?Revolvers are not pistols
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel

If you are talking about the Thompson, here's half of one for $250(not that those guys would ship it here...)

very dependent on a bunch of parameters.
1. Is it Original?
2. Is it Reproduction?
3. What Make?
4. What Condition?
5. What Parts?
6. What Configuration?
7. What Markings?
8. What History?
9. What Paperwork?
10. Whats Wrong?
Also, you do know that the M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine is an AW in accordance to the features it possesses. (Centerfire, Pistol Grip, Detachable Magazine, Folding Stock, Overall Length)
no-no item in CA

Genuine M1A1 Carbines are expensive and sought-after http://auction.odcmp.com/auctions/se...ref=price_desc , no one is going to demill a valuable functioning firearm like that. And as mentioned, a functioning M1A1 is illegal in California.
But, there might be another option if you are willing to take on a project. Check out this thread:
Got my tech-sights so I could finally complete this 10/22 / M1 carbine project. It was a fun project.:bthumb: Gives the 10/22 carbine a whole new look, but still has that handy 10/22 feel. http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd298/cuda5390/10-22-1.jpg...
He was able to fit a Ruger 10/22 into a standard carbine stock

I haven't seen it done, and it would probably take a little more work, but it should be possible to do the same with a M1A1 stock. Then you would have a legal M1A1 lookalike that shoots (.22LR).
You would need a Ruger 10/22 and a reproduction M1A1 stock, $175 from http://www.sarcoinc.com/m1c.html

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"
"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"Comment
