Not too bad, really. They look like they're in nice shape...

The CMP 1917s would be a better deal if you can talk them into shipping them to you. I was successful in that endeavor, so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility...

I wonder if by "Remington" they mean "Eddystone" as well...

Yeah, "Eddystone" was one of two plants (the other was Ilion, NY) where Remington made the Enfield's for the Government...or so the story goes.

I don't claim to be an expert on 1917s but I think the ones that are marked "Remington" as opposed to "Eddystone" are more sought after. I'm just curious as to which of the two markings these have on them...

Interesting! The one I bought has all Remington marked parts...I'll post pics once I get it, they said that it will be going out tomorrow, so I expect it next week sometime.

I don't know anything about these guns, so what do the numbers BBL 5-18, BBL 3-18 mean?

My understanding is that those are Barrel Dates...so 3-18 means March, 1918, etc...

Nice rifles, but there are better deals out there. I picked up a correct Winchester back in April for $500 and just got a correct Remington last week for $550. My first M1917 was a correct Eddystone which I paid too much for.
At least my collection is complete, a correct rifle from each manufacture and a shooter that was a Parade Rifle that I got from CMP for $250.
When you get the rifle, use this site to make sure all the parts are properly marked. http://m1903.com/m1917markings.htm

I used to pass on them for $200, oh well live and learn.

Not bad looking rifles. However there is no such thing as a P17; it is the U.S. Rifle Model of 1917, or M1917. The prices are high by a couple hundred at least. A Remington is a Remington, an Eddystone is an Eddystone and a Winchester is a Winchester and they should be advertised correctly. IMO, $500 is a fair price in todays market for average condition; more if all correct but that is rare as they were all re-built at least once following WWI. There were more Eddystones made than Remingtons and more Remingtons than Winchesters. I currently have correct Eddystone and Winchester M1917s and a mixmaster.

Yeah, for some reason, the "P17" (short for "Pattern 17") designation still gets used sometimes, even though, as you've pointed out, it should be the M1917.

I agree that these would be over-priced for average condition M1917's, but they look very good to excellent and AIM lists the bores as "very good to excellent" and the muzzles as "excellent". I've never been disappointed with AIM's guns (the M48 that I recently got from them is absolutely beautiful).

I'll get some pics up once I get it (it shipped today) so we can see if they were really worth the dough.
