    m1 garand question

    ok I've seen people put a round in the muzzle. is this to show muzzle wear? how much of the actual bullet stick out before it becomes casing.

      It's just a rough field test for muzzle erosion, basically shows that it's still around .30 caliber . It's much more accurate to borrow or buy a real gauge, which will give you a real number and also check for throat erosion at the other end.

      And keep in mind, plenty of guns with significant TE/ME still shoot quite well. The condition of the rifling and crown are just as important, if not moreso.
