Question on M1 Garand

Gentlemen,
Studying the M1 Garand for over 30 years I have to wonder about something and that something is REDUNDANCY. Do you think that the M1 Garand was designed with any redundancy in mind---e.g. Could the M1 Garand fire function with a broken op-rod spring ?? We have seen guys showing pic's of receiving M1 Garands with broken op-rods that still passed the 1 clip test before shipping out. If so can any of you think of parts in the M1 Garand that could keep the Garand firing even if just like a bolt action ?? Think about it and let see what some of you can come up with. I know that if I don't post a pic most guys will let this just go by. I hope that some of you jump in.

I could use some input on this question guys because I think it is important.

Actually the CMP only fires 3 rounds in each Garand for a function test....

as far as parts the Garand could do without and still fire single shot

Seems like it'd be like any semi-auto rifle in that regard. If its' got a barrel, trigger group, and bolt assembly, it'll go bang.

I've been told the most important parts to keep on hand are: extractor, ejector+spring, firing pin, safety. Secondary importance is a oprod spring and clip latch spring. I've seen a fair number of pictures of oprod springs that were taken from oprods in pieces but the rifle still functioned. The rifle will fire without the innards as a single shot; remove the gas plug so the rifle doesn't function as a semi auto and single load a round at a time. All you will need is the gas cylinder and lock, oprod and bolt, trigger group. The rest is there to function as a repeater. Hold the gas cylinder lock in place with some 100 MPH tape to stop the lock from unscrewing. A bit extreme but it will work.
