    Inland M1 Carbines???

    Hi Again All.

I'm looking at purchasing an Inland M1 Carbine from a private party, but the seller doesn't know whether or not it's C&R eligible for FTF cash and carry. I was wondering how one would determine this? Thank you for any help in advance.

The USGI M1 Carbine is a C&R rifle. Tell him to look up the serial number and it will tell him when it was manufactured.

Yes they are! Original US military surplus M-1 carbines are more than 50 years old. They stopped making them long before 1959. The same doesn't go for commercial replicas like the Universal, IMI, Iver-Johnson, Plainfield and so on...

You're fine for cash-and-carry. This history of Inland may help you convince him:

The CMP does not sell post-war commercial carbines; so no problem if this firearm came from them in the first place. The INLAND should also have some US military markings that aren't found on the commercial versions either. I have never seen anything like "44" or 1944 on the Universal, Plainfield, Iver-Johnson etc clones...

actuall i have.... the CMP was selling Plainfield receivers 2yrs ago.. I bought 2 and a buddy of mine bought 4 and he had me spin on a GI barrel on one..and back when Plainfield was using GI parts, it was quite common to see GI barrels on them.

I think the last "real" GI carbines were made around 1946, if the reciever says inland, it's c&r

This may help. Just find the serial number and look it up on the chart.

It's not a slam dunk, barrels can be changed, but there should be a date stamped on the top of the barrel behind the front sight.

If it is an Inland, or any of the other USGI mfg's, its C&R/ cash and carry eligible....Slam Dunk!!!

Close, actually, the last "real" US GI Carbines were made up until August 1945, The production effort was so successful an average of 11,000 carbines were being produced per day by mid 1943 by the ten different manufactures, that 6.2 million carbines were produced by the time production ended in 1945. From mid 1944 on, all manufacturers contracts but those for Inland and Wincehster were canceled. Both of the original manufactures continued in production until August 1945.

It was cool how compnaines that made steering gears, typewriters and postal meters, were able to make rifles. A great time in the history of our country.
