    C&R paperwork question

Do I need to send in a 1370.2 fingerprint form with my 5310.16 C&R app or just the app itself? I thought I had read somewhere the C&R required fingerprints.

No fingerprints or other info required. Just send in the application and one to the CLEO.

My app came in about a week too. I've heard to expect anywhere from 8-16 weeks on approval.

To get your C&R, no fingerprints.

However, you may want to get a COE from CA DOJ to go with it. That requires fingerprints.

Benefits include skipping the 10 day wait on certain guns. Also buy more than 1 non C&R handgun per month.

So, my illness goes in phases. I was on a handgun kick which morphed into black rifle disease, from which I am recovering nicely currently I am having a bad bout with milsurplus fever. My strain of milsurplus does not seem to cause desire for handguns right now. If I am not planning on buying C&R handguns, is there any reason for the COE?

There is one other COE benefit that I can't put my finger on at this exact second. It may be that it makes longs guns from a CA 01 FFL cash and carry. I'm shooting from the hip on that one, so search to make sure I'm correct.

that would be cool but with the prices i have seen on c&r guns in stores, I think I am going to wait on shipping seems like outside big-5 sales (who won't honner a 03) prices are 4-5 times that of aim or centry... for some real beat up mis matched rifles

You still have to DROS(pay $25) but there is no ten day wait. Also, it only applies to C&R guns (50 years or older).

Almost, but not quite correct. The exemption applies to all C&R firearms, not just those over 50 years old.

                        here's what a C&R + COE gets you:

the 1 handgun per 30 days limit no longer applies. This is includes non-C&R handguns

you may skip the 10 day wait when buying C&R guns from a 01 FFL. Age of the gun does not matter here, just it's C&R status. If it's on the ATF's C&R list, then it is eligible to the wait period exemption. This does NOT apply to non-C&R guns. This DOES apply to both handguns and long guns.

As for the whole older than 50 years old versus younger than 50 years old:

If a firearm is on the ATF's C&R list, it is a C&R gun. age doesn't really matter. If it's on the list, it's C&R. List = C&R

California state law requires all firearms to go through a 01 FFL EXCEPT "rifles, shotguns, and other firearms not easily concealed on the person" that are 50 years old or older.

                        What does this mean?
if a C&R gun is less than 50 years old, it has to go through a 01 FFL. end of story.
if a C&R gun is greater than 50 years old, and is not a handgun, it can be shipped to your door if you have a C&R license.
if a C&R gun is a handgun, you either have to pick it up out of state or send it to a 01 FFL. end of story.

Ah, so if I buy an SKS that is <50 years old from an FFL I don't have to wait ten days?

if you have a C&R license and a COE, then yes. You still have to DROS it, but you get to walk out of the store with the rifle the same day.
