Enfield No 4 Scope Mount

I just picked up a like new SMLE No 4 MkII and want the option of using a scope on a "no d/t" mount. I've seen most of what's offered and am not impressed with what I've seen, except for the CadTech - which is of course out of stock at Brownells. I've backordered, does anyone have suggestions for a base in the meantime or instead of the CadTech?

I don't mind removing the sight or ejector screw, but I'd like the mount to look like it belongs, sit fairly low and not rely on pressure fit or a set screw turned into a recess in the receiver. One of the reasons I dumped a Mk III Ishapore was not being able to find a secure no d/y base, even S & K moves about.

And if anyone knows where I can grab the CadTech I'm all ears.

You could try posting a WTB on some of the other big C&R firearms forums, like GunBoards or Parallax Bill's forum. A lot of people try scoping their Enfields but then give up, tossing the scope mount into their parts bin. So there might be a bunch sitting around waiting for a WTB post.

And make sure that you specify that your rifle is a No.4. Mounts for the SMLE and the No.4 are not interchangeable.

I've had a couple Cad Tech mounts. They are "good" probably the best out there but not ideal. The mount puts the scope way up high so you will really need to get a cheek pad in order to see through the scope comfortably. There are also too many screws on the thing to comes loose over time.

Almost every other mount is not very solid and/or will scratch the finish (if that bothers you).

I ended up selling my mounts and got a Parker Hale rear sight. I only shoot out to 200 yards which is an easy task with a Parker Hale aperture sight.

BTW your rifle is not an SMLE, those are only No.1 rifles, not No.4's.

I was thinking of the Parker Hale, have seen a few around for sale. I'll be reloading, already sent away to Grafs for dies and have a few hundred Privi rounds laying around here somewhere.

I have a 70s vintage SK mount on my #4 and there is no movement at all. It is rock solid. I don't know if it has changed in manner of attachment in the last 35 years.

Probably not - I think it anchors through the rear sight holes.

The No4 I bought is import stamped (Century Arms when they were in St Albans, VT) and although it looks great, perfect bore my guess is it certainly isn't a collector's item. Just a great looking rifle. So would drilling & tapping for this mount be such a bad thing to do?

I know "it's my gun" applies but I usually don't change military configuration rifles.

My S&K mount attaches at the threaded sight holes and also has a wedge that cramps under the charger bridge. Like I said it is rock solid and a lot easier and cheaper than D&T your rifle plus it is portable; you can put it on another #4 if you wish.

Well I've already sprung for the repro mounts & base. What is the scope brand, what's an about price and are they a pain to zero? Seeing all those reminded me there's a Cow Palace show coming up & one vendor always has alot of Enfield stuff.

There is a no.4 mark 2 at Krauseworks in san mateo. the guy is selling it for waaay too much but it has a scope mount attached whihc fixes through the rear sight hole and the ejector screw holes and when I checked it it looked very solid - based on the PH on the Enforce from what I could see. call em up and ask what type it is.

I did see that one, it looked like a B Square or the S & K. I'm going with either the Cadtechnik (Brownells says they'll be in next week) or having the thing drilled & tapped with the Numrich Arms repro.

What is the best site for info on Enfields btw? I have a Sniper unit of my Dad's I am working on...

It has a few things I want to learn more about... Which model has the flash hider? This one is a 1945 year model.

My repro mount & pads arrived - any chance I could get you to blow up one of the left side photos of these splendid "for real" Enfields so I can help out my gunsmith - and me, I want to make certain it's done correctly.

Also, unlike the front pad I see the center hole in the rear pad isn't threaded. So I presume the large screw threads directly into the receiver, through the rear pad - allows for shimming if needed? Pretty ingenious the way the front pad & mount is set up - makes setting the thing up vertically parallel to the bore able to be adjusted during mounting.
