1903's aren't really too high on my list. And at $500 with finances tight; I'm going to have to pass on those.
Now, the carbines; one of those I want!
Hopefully CMP doesn't go too high on those and I have a good tax refund.

I always see you guys talking about CMP. I think I just quickly looked over it a long while back but read something about needing to join a club or something of the sorts, along with some other requirements? Ill have to take the timeto look at it a little closer

Heh. I filled out the form for a 40x last night, but I 'slept' on it and decided against ordering it. The more I thought about getting a 40x or 52D, the more I realized I didn't really 'need' it or have a desire to own it. I have the H&R M12 I got from the Western Games still collecting dust while I get the sights for it.

I will be getting a Carbine though, when they list them on the site. I figure to get at least 2.

My advice on ordering the new rifles listed last night and today (.22s and 03s): send in your order forms via FedEx next day. You'll want your order to get their ASAP since a lot of people will be sending in orders for these rifles and they'll go fast.

If you've previously orderered from them, can't you fax it in?
Or are they doing by mail only?
Having a previous order makes it much easier to get in on these fast buys they have; I missed out on something a year or so ago (carbine's maybe) 'cuz all the existing people could order quicker.

BTW - You don't need a C&R for CMP orders; but it helps a little.

As far as requirements, they are real easy. The online garand club is $20 and sends your reg directly ot CMP. A hunting license or C&R takes care of marksmanship. Or just go to a range, shoot and have a RO fill out the CMP form - done!

The 1903 is a tough decision. I'd like to get one sometime but I'm a little scared by the bore description (dirty, could have little/no rifling). Those are probably just weasel words to protect themselves against whiners but I'd hate to spend $500 on something that is mostly a wall hanger. So I didn't send in my Fed Ex this afternoon to try and jump to the front of the line for Tuesday morning. I'll think about it some more over the weekend.

I'm definitely interested in the carbine. It will be interesting to see the pricing on those since it seems like everyone is salivating at the opportunity to buy one. I'm sure the CMP knows what they have there and will price accordingly.

                    M1 CARBINE

29 December, 2006. The Army has transferred to the CMP a significant quantity of M1 Carbines. We are currently processing these carbines through our Inspection & Repair operations and expect to have some ready for sale by 1 March, 2007, but it may be sooner. More information will be posted on this web page as it becomes available.

At this time no decisions have been made as to grading, pricing, or limits. We are not accepting orders or establishing waiting lists at this time!!

I'm hoping this next lot of carbines will yield some complete and shootable weapons. The last batch CMP sold were just receivers (some with unusable barrels). Fulton (BOO! HISS! HISS!) was offering to build them up for $750+ (IIRC).
