cheaper to make, and easy to replace when you need a part that works in both your sub-gun and standard carbines
Also, the added weight for the round bolt was to slow the rate of fire on the M2 CarbineOriginally posted by AJAX22Anti gun BS...

the round bolt is a "revision" part, perfectly acceptable in an "as issued" weapon. The bolt was "revised" after failures with the flat bolt. Flat bolts were actually pulled out of M1's before being issued and replaced."There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws" From Atlas Shrugged by Ayn RandComment

what is the serial # {minus the last 2 digits} I'll look it up for you."America will never be destroyed from the outside.

Did the round bolts show up during WWII, or were they a post-war improvement?Comment

first off, I mis-typed ,it should read 90 degree.
If you are looking at the bolt from above ,you should see the flat and all the cuts on the barrel side should be 90 degres to the c/l of the bolt.If there is a "V" cut at the extreme right 6:00 position ,that is a type One bolt."America will never be destroyed from the outside.
