"Snipers" (2022) Red China propaganda film

In full, didn't watch it all myself, just watched bits of the snipers and their weapons. 1903A1 so I guess they were US Marines - ?

BS shooting, Carlos Hathcock type shot to kill the US Marine sniper at the end, screw Red China.

Every damn sniper movie seems to have a Carlos Hathcock shot in it these days.

There are many who feel that what Hathcock claimed wasn't possible.

The show Mythbusters famously (or infamously) tried to recreate the shot...

I never did see the initial episode, but I did see their follow-up where they acknowledged it was "plausible," but unlikely.

However, if you watch an actual sniper running a similar test (48:49 - 1:00:10), it's demonstrated to be more than plausible if what you test is 'consistent' with the 'Curio & Relic' type gear of the time rather than based on modern equipment.

Ultimately, it makes for a visually compelling sequence, which is why it's used in movies. Insofar as the Chinese sniper being the 'hero' or the 'winner,' what else would you expect from a Chinese produced film? That's ignoring the fact that, sometimes, the 'enemy' does things correctly too.

Of course, if you don't like Chinese snipers, you can always look to a Siberian Sniper as an alternative...

I just posted the link to the film for C&R enthusiasts - so they could look at the weapons. There is no historic engagement that this movie was based on.

The NVA sniper that Hathcock shot through the scope, had his rifle taken as a war trophy, and "was" on display at Ft. Bragg. I asked an Army Colonel friend that was stationed there about it. Said he saw it when he first got there, and later it disappeared. His inquiries didn't turn up anything on it's whereabouts. That was a good 10yrs ago, and I never heard if it turned up.
