My wife and I took a trans-Atlantic cruise this month with the first stop being in the Azores. Once leaving the ship we went to the military museum housed in the stone fortress overlooking the harbor.
The museum has a great collection of light artillery, Portuguese issue small arms, and artifacts related to the colonial wars in Africa. From what I could gather from the exhibits, the Azores were a marshalling point for troops headed to Africa. A section was devoted to reminisces from former soldiers who fought in the campaigns.
Being over 65, we each paid one euro to enter the museum. It was the bargain of the trip!

Some of the light artillery on display

HK21

Breda MG

Lewis Guns

Army standards shown in the Africa section

British 4" Naval gun made by Vickers in 1941 and mounted on top of the fortress. Two of the guns are on display.
