I just got ; the subject of a couple of threads here ; my Winchester in .303 British. On inspection the rifling looks very sharp but the bore is dark. I dont' wnat to subject it to extreme abrasive cleansing but I'd like to clean it up significantly before I shoot the thing. Have gone through with plastic bristle brushes thus far, I then used Sweets 7.62 and then dry patches then oiled it. if there is pitting in teh middle of the barrel, what would people recomment for treating the barrel so that maybe the pitting doesn't attrcat so much fouling and get worse? IS there even anything you can do at that point? I was thinking of somethign like people use on new barrels to smooth out rough edges etc. ps despite this the rifle is gorgeous! My new favorite.

Anything you do now to remove pitting or make the bore shiney is just going to be removing bore surface. You can do the exact same thing by shooting 2000 rounds through the bore. What's more fun, cleaning or shooting?__________________
