    M1 Garand Numbers Question

    Re-Posting
(I accidentally in the ?Collectors Exchange ? (The for sale section)

    I bought a Garand from a co-worker a few years ago.
Looking up the serial number (the serial number is: 1634366) from what I can determine the receiver was made around May/June 1943.
Am I looking at the numbers correctly, or am I off?

    Thanks in advance

Seems about right, other parts however are more then likely not original. If I remember correctly, the US did not stamp every single part like the Germans did.

Only one serial number on a Garand. They were issued in blocks to the various manufacturers. The parts have the part number and a makers code on them. 99.9999% of M1 have been through the rebuild process where not attempt was made to use parts from the same manufacturer. They are all mix-masters but often times people will but correct manufacturer parts for their M1s.

        Not so fast fellers.

If the OP's rifle was manufactured by Springfield Armory then yes-all the above dating exercises are correct.
However...if the OP's rifle has the Winchester stamp on the receiver heel, that genre of garand was manufactured in Jan to Ap of 1945...

Good Catch. I forgot about the Win-13s being in this number range.
