Rare Stuff at the OC Gun Show

Not sure how many of you braved the wet weather and got out to Costa Mesa last weekend to the Crossroads gun show, but it had its fair share of eye candy. Most vendors were somewhat sleepy in their offerings, but the auction houses really shined.

In particular OCA had some unbelievably rare C&R's out on display to advertise their upcoming March auction. Top of the charts were these five:

Bottom to top: M-1941 Johnson, G43, Experimental Sig Semi-auto, G41(W), and Japanese Type 4

The latter blew me away. I remember first learning about the Type 4 on Tales of the Gun from the History Channel. Never thought in a million years I'd see one in person.

Nice! I remember seeing that auction house's guns at some shows in SoCal. They always had some nice condition, interesting stuff. Stuff I couldn't afford but fun to look at.

I have purchased a couple hasndguns from them, most recently a Ruger Super Single Six with both cylinders.

Thank you for sharing what you saw. Seeing the C&R guns was my favorite part of going to modern gun shows. The Type 4 is wild. Long before they were copying American electronics they were ripping off the m1 Garand!

Reading about the M-1941 also lead me to reading about the 1941 LMG. I was surprised by the strange stock that looked like it contained a buffer tube. No wonder Johnson later went on to work with Armalite.

I miss learning about C&R stuff at shows. Hands on and talking to people is much better than clickety clicking. The same with all the little buttons and nic-nacs folks sell. I doubt it will ever get back to the way it was!

I was drooling over the 03-A4 sniper with the Unertl USMC scope.
            Auction estimate $17-24,000.

Cool and all, but if they are not going to sell them at the gun show, and only selling them at online auction, it reinforces the idea better 'gun shows' can be found online and location-based gun shows are a waste of time.

Before the internet, those would have had price tags on them.

Used to be nearly every table has rare/C&R guns for sale.

It was a fun show - picked up a matching late-war (qve code) K43 there, myself.

Also, an Aussie Bren barrel canvas carrier.
Like the one on the left:

On Sat, I saw a Colt Thunderer for $750 - thought about it for too long.
A couple of nice (but well worn) S+W Russians for a good price - too, used for me, but nice revolvers.

Found myself wanting to buy a lobster tailed Brit Civil War helmet from Collector's Armory, kept circling back was about to commit when the K43 appeared.

Anyone have a late war ZF4 rig, with the blue triangle, if it says K43 on it I'll pay silly money, lol!

Nice haul Pitfighter! This show had a surprisingly good turnout of C&Rs. I resisted the urge but my buddy who's made it a mission to collect all Mauser variants lucked out on an unissued 1871/84. He almost had to pass on it though because there was some misunderstanding about whether antiques still qualified for cash & carry, seems a lot of sellers believe that law no longer applies! But luckily reason prevailed.

Here it is (the blonde stock) lined up next to his other 1871/84 back home:

There used to be a guy or 2 (or more) that had racks of various Mausers, many of them Swedes. I used to walk by with drool off my chin, they looked clean, almost new. I was so broke I could barely pay attention. Stuff like that now is pretty expensive, or in the back or safes. At least it was cheap to park and get in, very little jerky or jewelry back then. I did end up with a couple of Swedes and others years later. We could get stuff sent from various vendors in Shotgun News back then for a reasonable cost.
It's time in life to start selling, but very hard to get started. In the old days I'd get a table at Del Mar or Pomona and get it done. Ca makes everything hard.
I still have things on the bucket list, but I think the saying is " life is what happens when you have other plans."
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

                            EagleMike,

Depending on when you bought said rifle, perhaps a table at an Arizona Gun Show, things are a little simpler there?
                            Presuming you're an 03 holder.
This is not a lawyer's advice, I almost went there in stead of Del Mar this weekend, but the drive bores me.
