Sporterized M1903 for 03A4 ?clone?

I won an auction on Gunbroker for what was labeled a Remington 03A3 sporter but it turned out to be a Remington 03. I picked it ip for a decent deal and planned on using it as the base for an 03A4 clone. How much of a difference would it make to clone the A4 from the 03 instead of the A3? Would it be better to keep looking for an A3 to build it from or can the 03 work ok?

I?m not looking for an exact clone, just something close to have fun with.

It looks like the only permanent change was the drilling and tapping for the mount.

IMO, it would work for what you want. But by the time you get done, it wouldn't be worth the time and money. If you want it to look more original, you would have to replace the barrel, as well as the stock, scope+rings and associated hardware. Having just completed a restoration of a sporterized 'A4, I have a pretty good idea of what the expense is for just those items.

If that was my rifle, I would go for a Marine sniper look. You are still going to have to replace the stock and other items, but their base rifles were regular '03's so you won't have to replace the barrel. No matter which way you go, it's going to be expensive.

Yeah, I decided if I?m going to spend the time and money, I?m going to wait for the right 03A3 to show up. I don?t want to commit and be unhappy with the results.
