    Remington 30 Express

Just picked this up out of state and have a few questions.

I also have the original military version Model 1917, cocks on closing. This Model 30 cocks on opening. I know conversions could be made, however is cocks on opening correct for the Model 30?

The front sight base has horizontal slots for a front sight hood, and the rifle came with one. However it barely cleared the top of the front sight - were these rifles factory equipped with a front sight hood?

The front sight is a brass bead type, very thin and tall and held in place by two pins. Any replacements available?

Did the Model 30 come from the factory d&t for a rear peep sight?

Early Model 30's were the same as the military 1917. They cocked on closing, but that was changed later to cock on opening. I believe the 30's were all tapped for Redfield aperture sight when they left the factory.

Don't know about the front sight hood. Some old pic's show one some don't.
    Poke'm with a stick!

Perhaps the front sight blade was replaced with taller one because of the aperture sight and that is why there is minimal clearance.

The Model 30, cocks on closing. The Model 30 Express, cocks on opening. Remington had several options for the rear peep sight, and front sight. Before you change the front sight blade, shoot it first!
D&T for receiver sight, and scope mounts.
