    My first German Mauser

I've had it for a while now but took it out today to appreciate it and get a little footage of it. It's a complete beauty, I love it. I've only shot it once.

Any accessories I should look into? Ideally i'd love to put a scope on it.

I honestly don't know much about these rifles but when this deal popped up, I knew I had to jump on it.

If you want some experienced people to tell you the honest truth about it, put it on this other site - https://www.k98kforum.com/forums/mau...nazi-period.6/

They will want close up pictures of every marking on the rifle.

From that video, I would say it has been refurbished and the stock was a Russian capture - if that black tape looking thing is blocking a number on the left side of the buttstock. Horizontal is Russian capture, vertical is Yugo.

    How does it shoot?

      Sounds like Russian capture.

And as far as how it shoots, well it went bang every time.

I really want to get a scope for it so I can see what I can squeeze out of it. The irons and my eyes just aren't the best combo. But not sure what mount to use. I am leaning towards this one since it says that there is no permanent modifications needed

[Firearms, optics, and rings are for display only and NOT included] NOTE: Works for Mauser Karabiner 98 kurz (Carbine 98 Short, often abbreviated as Kar98k, K98, or K98k). Does NOT work for K98A or K98AZ (pre-Kar98k) or ANY other Mausers.  No drill, no tap, no permanent modification to your Mauser K98K Ultra-Low profil

Very nice example of a Russian Capture K98. The RC's have a history all their own since so many of them made a brutal one way trip across the Russian steppes.

RC's are commanding a princely sum these days. Just my .02, but I wouldn't add anything aftermarket to a K98, reversible or not. There are many lesser surplus Mausers that can make good platforms for that, especially Yugos.

Get a REAL smith if you want to add a scope ! If you want to keep the safety original use KWIK Sights. Its a see under the scope for iron sights as well use the scope. Worked for me.

              OP,
Did I read that correctly, you shot it once? Well heck, now the K98 RC is ruined, again.

It could use a front sight hood...

                Forget the scope.

Take some pictures of the receiver markings. That way we can tell who made it and it's date of manufacture!

Even RCs (that are un-messed with) are becoming somewhat collectible and going up in price. Don't scope it.

Yes, after reading the replies here. I will not be scoping it.

I will try to get some pictures of the receiver markings.

It does have the NAZI symbol though haha.

The bullets will go faster with the proper stampings.

Nothing wrong with a RC. Lots of history there.

I'd buy one that has already been sporterized with an optic.

Russian capture K98K's are great rifles. I bought a bunch of them when they were being imported in bulk and cheap. Got some pretty scarce manufacturer's that I would not have been able to afford.

A great start to any Mauser or WWII rifle collection!!
