Guns.com article about the Walther P38

Short easy read. I?ve always liked the P38s.

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
    Come on...what harm??

P 38's are neat pistols. Many variants and they are very collectable.

Walther also made commercial models of the P 38 in the 60's. The below P 38 is a "high polish blue" variant made in 1968.

That was a thorough article with lots of history and covered a lot of info.

I was reading it and waiting for the 1 thing that makes the p38 unique in my mind (although it has a lot of other unique features)...

The extractor is on the left side and the fired empty cases theoretically eject to the left side, which is something that very few if any semi auto pistols do.
        And there it was...

"The extractor at the top and bottom left is on the left side of the slide, ejecting spent casings uniquely to the left."

Thats what I tried purchasing from , Earl's Repair Service, Inc. I emailed asking if they were C&R eligible. The reply I received , " No these were made post war". I emailed back, were they made prior to 1973, never got a reply.

It's amazing how uneducated some FFL's are about what qualifies a firearm as a C&R...

Wow, great read thank you for sharing. I have a Walther P4 that my dad gave to me years ago. He said it was a West German Police pistol, then was later sold here in the US. I have all the paperwork and it does say it is being sold as used. It did come in Walther box with 4 magazines and a holster.

I have only taken it out to the range once and I had no issues with it. It's obviously a post war version of the P38, but after looking at the pics in that article it is very similar.

Did Clint Eastwood use a P-38 in the movie, 'Where Eagles Dare'?

Mine was removed from my house one night back in '96. If anyone sees it floating around out there grab it for me.

Not very accurate or consistant. Runs well, doesn't jam.

1981 Bundeswehr unissued. It's literally never been shot. Same year I graduated from HS. I haven't gotten around to shooting it yet but I probably will soon. I scored the original Interarms box, German packing box from it's import and the hand illustrated "users manual", which is really just more of a booklet. SVT, your sample is much better looking but this is a crappy cell phone image. Mine must have just sat in a police armory for a bunch of years.
