    Over 5K for a Type 99 Arisaka?

Kinda in shock over this auction.

Any idea - other than two or more guys in a pissing match?

Yeah, I guess one this nice in possible but I'm skeptical.

You can find the un-numbered repro dust covers and I have several sets of die stamps from the old days so that can be faked.

I have had several type 99's. I still have one very nice one and a type 38 carbine. So I have seen a few in my day but this nice is extremely rare. Unless the GI opened a case of rifles on the battlefield and brought back from the war . . . but usually a full length rifle was hard to hide unless duffle cut.

I have not seen any with all those other parts serial marked so that may be faked. I'm no pro at this . . . just what I have seen.

If it is a true bring back that was not cut and the sling and dust cover are original and all these details are true, a diehard collector just might pay that price.

Hard to believe that an Arisaka could bring that kind of money unless it had some unique provenance. PAX

I have a matching number, including the bolt cover, 1st series Nagoya that may not be in as nice overall condition but I would gladly sell it for 4 grand.

While you can find T99s anywhere, it's uncommon finding a T99 with the Emperor's Mum intact. More uncommon to find it with it's matching bolt. But add the monopod and matching cover, it's a rare specimen.

And to add to all of this, an original leather sling? That's something I only seen once in the 40 so years I've been collecting.

If all of it is original and not faked, definitely worth alot. Not sure about $5k but for me, the Mum, matching bolt, monopod, cover, and original sling will definitely catch my eye. I'm willing to pay a premium but $5k is too much for my wallet.

I sold my Series 3 Nagoya last year for $2,300. It was nicer and perhaps rarer ( original series 3 are hard to find) than that one. Mine had all the bells and whistles with a rubberized canvas sling. I have never seen a better, more complete example in 40 years of collecting. Mine went to a fellow Calgunner. I think $5k is about double what the subject gun is worth.

I've got a crappy last ditch that's scrubbed I'd take $1K for in in a heartbeat, or any of my other Arisakas (except my uncles' T38 capture). PAX

Had one I sold to a fellow Cal Gunner back in about 2016 or 17. I had an intact mum but was in really rough shape like it had been sitting in the jungle for a while. At the time I believe I sold it for about 300.00 and I felt I was getting a good price considering the shape it was in.

Looks like from 2750 up it was only two bidders. Good timing for the seller I guess.

Yeah that is a bit ludicrous; market value I've seen for a complete Type 99 (matching dust cover, monopod, bayonet, intact mum) was in the vicinity of 1500-2000, and tack 200-300 more if a bayonet and sling is thrown in.

But 5K for one is at least more than twice the value. Think based on the previous post it went well out of market value once those two bidders got in a pissing match at 2750 and it spiraled out from there.

I bought my Series 1 Nagoya which has the Mum and is all matching including the dust cover along with the bayonet for $500 about five years ago. I am still astounded that anyone would pay that much for one, although the no series are kinda rare.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know what a type 99 sniper is worth? It has a light X on the mum and it is missing the scope. I have never seen another one for sale. I did see a few of the scopes for sale and they were asking a small fortune. That was about 10-15 years ago.
