    Percussion caps for 1861 Springfield

Anyone know what size or number for the percussion caps or muzzle caps for an 1861 Springfield Civil War musket?
    Any good sources?

Unless someone put a smaller nipple on it, you want musket caps. Be sure to wear glasses, they sometimes throw the wings.

Never had to pay a hazmat "fee" with ammo shipped to my door.

The shipper had to pay hazmat fees to ship to your door. And he therefore charges you.

Another place is Graffs and sons.
Only buy the German winged musket caps, the CCI musket caps are only for reenactment (blanks).

They also have black powder and

        1075 caps (#11) percussion caps

and 1075 plus caps (#11 magnum) percussion caps

1075 are the most universal pistol / rifle except for Remmington #10.
1075 plus is used mainly for fake black powder in rifles (like Pyrodex and tripple 7). Because it takes higher temperatures to ignite.

1075 non plus is the more universal powder.

EDIT: you have to sign for hazmat packages on delivery from Graffs, so you have to be home that day.

The Schuetzen caps are made in Spain. They are serviceable. RWS of course are better but I haven't seen their musket caps since 2019

Not sure where you are but Sportsmans.com has them in stocks generally.

Caps are not ammo. Caps, powder and primers are hazmat. Hard to help OP since he is hiding location. I have #11 caps in LA.

Musket Caps. I found them at Sportsman Warehouse also.

I found Minie's at Track of the Wolf. Tried a patched round ball, but like 510gr Minie better.

That's still in the US, right? Therefore, when shipping primers (yes, that's exactly what percussion caps are), you have to ship them as hazmat and pay the appropriate fees.

Primers and powder you must pay a hazmat fee. This goes to the shipper. In any state.

Graff and sons for all your black powder needs. And winged musket caps. And 1075 and 1075 plus (magnum spark) for pistols and rifles. Magnum spark is what is best for rifles using fake black powder. For all handguns with real or fake black powder and real black powder rifles the 1075 non plus is best. Because they are less powerful, do the job, and don't blow the cap to bits, the fired cap stays in one piece.

Remington # 10 is even better for most percussion revolvers but very hard to find. Rem 10 and 1075 non plus are the only caps that work well on my revolvers. I have to squeeze the other types with tiny pliers and still they don't always bang.
