    NTC Kogaku Japanese Sniper Scope

A friend of mine inherited the scope from his dad. He doesn't know where his dad got it or when. His dad served in the European theater and was never in the Pacific, so it had to have been acquired after the war. He's interested in discovering information about it and what it's worth for insurance purposes. It came in what looks like the original carrying case. The scope appears to be in good condition, except for the rubber eyepiece, which is now hard and stiff. The glass is clear, and the crosshairs are tight.

I've found some information about this scope, but I'm not familiar with Japanese sniper scopes and don't know if it's correct. From what I've read, it was made by the Nippon Typewriter Company between 1941-1942 for a Type 99 sniper rifle. It looks like there were 2,000 scopes manufactured by NTC, and this one is number 1902. I believe it was paired with sniper rifle number 7015 since this is the number engraved or stamped on the backside of the mount.

I appreciate any clarification or additional information that you can provide.

You'd probably have them foaming at the mouth with that scope/case.

It would probably be worth a lot to the owner of sniper rifle #7015 if it still exists. Is your friend sure he doesn't have the matching rifle hidden somewhere in the father's attic or basement?

I sold a fixed a non adjustable WW2 Japanese scope for $1700 back in 2007. Without case and rubber completely gone.

It's pretty cool and rare. My friend in Idaho has one on a sniper T99 in his vast collection. PAX

Thanks guys, I’ll post this on Gun Boards too.

My friend has no idea how or where his dad got the scope. It would be cool if the rifle survived. It’s unfortunate that the likelihood of pairing this scope with the rife is so unlikely.

              I'd guess, guess now, post WW2. 1955 to 1962.
