So this guy buys a C&R collection

So I watch these videos with both awe and sadness. Awe that a guy (like us) collected so many historical firearms and eventually passed away...sadness that someone who doesn't know what he found/bought is going through the collection with little or no understanding.

Sadness that the original collector did not bring in family and friend for the eventuality that we all perish and our things remain.

Collections are things we collect to leave other people when we die. They don’t bring lasting happiness and are causes of worry for the body and the mind ( I don’t have enough! Someone may take my things ! They are rusting and need restoration!)

“I wish to stay on here but it’s out of my control
I wish to bring my possessions but I cannot take a thing
I wish for the comfort of companions but I have to go alone
Sooner or later I will go onto the next world, that’s for sure .
Teacher , father of mine , hold me with all your compassion.”

The guy on Legacy Arms you tube channel does similar videos of buying deceased collector's collections. The heirs could care less about the collection, they just want the cash. For all of you guys who won't shoot some unfired colleectable, when you croak, it's going to a reseller for .25 on the dollar. Enjoy it now.

My heap of iron and wood is in trust with a designated armorer (who's a gun nut). My grandkids, nephews and some friends are gonna score hard. PAX

It was painful to watch the second video with all the S&W revolvers. He was getting annoyed that there were so many 357's, 38 specials, and 22 LR's because he wanted a 44 mag.

I guess the upside to it, is that most of those firearms will probably go to someone else.

I don't have to worry abut that. Both of our sons are firearm guys and I've already pared down to a minimum.

It's sad to dispose of your possessions while still kicking, but sadder to leave them in limbo for a spouse or other that has no interest in firearms, but the same can said for our other tools.

Due to weight and CA laws ammo may problematic.

...and no .44 here either, just old .357's.

Museums are generally overwhelmed with attempted donations of items that are duplicates or just not that special to them.

The problem for the people who inherit is that the old farts who are interested in owning the old stuff want to pay what they used to cost back in the day. Of course, if you want to buy one of their collection pieces they want your first born in return.

Just sold my 600-item antique pocketknife collection to dealer. Loved collecting (hunting) them and steeping myself in pocketknife history but stopped buying about 20 years ago when got holy grail specimen and it's good to have them back in circulation. Also one less thing my daughters will have to handle after I'm gone and frees up more money for guns.

This is why I don't collect things nor place too much value on possessions. Things either have a practical use to me or they don't, in which case I hold no sentimental attachment to them.
