    Miltech Rifles

Interested in buying an M1D and having seen some quality rifles restored by Miltech (https://www.miltecharms.com/rifles.htm) I thought I might order from them because I’d like to be able to shoot it more frequently than I might feel comfortable with an all original especially with having a 70 year old scope. It’s more about the experience at the range than about owning an all-matching historical treasure.

I’ve heard good thing about Miltech’s quality, if a restoration is what one is looking for. I have also done a few google searches as well as on BBB, and it seems like they had some issues with delivering on-time. Some of that negative feedback was during Covid which was a difficult time for many shops due to supply chain issues and forced closures.

Does anyone have any recent personal experience with ordering from Miltech? Trying to see if any feedback about ordering, delivery, quality, value etc could help push me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

Another option would be finding a beater M-1 Garand and having Fulton Armory restore it. Heard they did really good work.

For the prices they are asking you can buy an original in excellent condition.

Might depend on the definition of “excellent condition” and “original.” At this moment on GB, I see the excellent condition originals going for $5k+ and others which may not be fully authentic M1C or D going for $3,500+. Maybe there’s somewhere else where I should be looking. But also, I don’t know how well a 70 year old scope will stay zero’d and I may feel bad putting thousands of rounds through a genuine original.

you can expect that miltech scope and mount to be Chinese, and of low quality. probably not going to get thousands of rounds out of it.

CMP auction site always gets top dollar, but at least you're getting real U.S.G.I.

have you ever fired a M-1D? the standard rifle is a better experience, imo.

That's a lot of money for a commercial produced M1D.

You are better off finding a basic M1D on GunBroker and adding an commercial scope, mount, flash hider and cheek pad. You will save a ton of money and have more fun assembling it.

Or spend the same amount and purchase a genuine USGI complete set up.
