    I know it's a sin, but

I have been loading my 45 Colt with 3f blackpowder.

I'v been having a hard time getting blackpowder.

So, if the time ever comes that I have to use a substitute what is the
    best one.

Also, is it ok to ask for forgiveness before you sin?

    Thanks

What sin have you committed? It sure ain't using black powder with your .45 Colt. Remember, that was the original loading, and it works just as well now as it did back in the day. Be sure to clean your gun well afterwards, but you probably already know that.

The guys on the BP circuit in my neck o' the woods seem to like Triple-Se7en. I myself haven't played with it, as my powder of choice for .45 Colt is currently Titegroup.

No sin, no foul. But possibly others?
I do the same thing but only get one or two good groups a day. I have good molds, Smokey black powder, a wad, and a decent charge. It’s all I can expect I suppose, but it’s getting wonderful. I make my own lube, and etc. putting together is the fun part plus everything else.

But I’m new at it so I’ll just keep plugging away. Don’t get me wrong, I like it. Such a nice big boom and all authentic and everything. It’s fun to be different. I’ll keep at it and keep perfecting the trade.

The smell sure gets funky sometimes, don’t it? I’m going to start trying to use up my T7 too. Been sitting around for years, now I have bp firearms, can do that!

What’s up with you pal. Tell me about your rig. Can you say casting on here?

Pretty sure he's talking about using a substitute. As in turning away from Holy Black.
And OP, no you can't ask forgiveness before you sin.

TrailBoss Powder, that's what it was made for.

            Trail Boss is apparently discontinued.

My 45 Colt is a stainles Ruger Vaquero. 4 1/2 inch barrel.
I got it used. It is in great shape. The original owner had the cylinder reamed out to a proper size, I forget the diameter. And had the forceing cone redone.

While I like Ruger. Their forcing cones some times are horrible and the cylinder mouths on 45 caliber revolver are often under sized for using a cast boolet.

I am shootine a 260 grain boolet that I cast from a mold made by Accurate Molds. I us lambs tallow and bee's wax for lube. I am using about 32 grains of black powder, if I remember correctly.

I have been shooting black powder since 1977. Black powder is all that I have ever used in muzzleloaders and such.

So, I have no knowlege about the black powder subs.

              Take care

I too cast and load for my Ruger. Mine is a Blackhawk. I cast an Accurate 45-250P and size it to .454". Works great in my Rossi 92 also.

You are correct about the Ruger dimensions. I got very lucky on my Blackhawk.

I occasionally use Goex but most of the time I use Unique. Since I like real blackpowder I have only tried one substitue and that was Pyrodex. I did not like it so I am no help there.

I would recommend Vihtavuori N32C Tin Star as a substitute for Trail Boss but apparently that has been discontinued also.

Try a load of Bullseye I guess.

                  Best of luck my friend.

Look for Tin Star. It's Vihtavouri's version and pretty dang close to the same stuff.

Yeah that is what I recommended also but I think it has been discontinued.

Whoa. Didn't realize both were not being made anymore. That's very surprising, considering how many people use them!

Guess I should bought another 8lb trail boss when I saw it a couple weeks ago. Dangitt.
