What's A Good Inexpensive C&R SXS for AOW Project?

I'm kicking around getting a C&R side by side crack barrel shotgun for an AOW project. Can anyone recommend something cheap that fits the bill? Has anyone done this?

    Thanks.

To make an AOW, you don't need a C&R host gun, but the host gun can never have had a shoulder stock. I am not aware of anyone currently making Pistol Grip only SxS or O/U "shotguns" that could be used as a AOW host gun. M24armorer went to the Shot show a year or two ago and talked to every manufacturer he could in order to line up a supply of AOW SxS or O/U hosts, to no avial.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Thanks, Jack. Thanks to your famous AOW or SBS/SBR in CA post, I know I don't need a C&R host (as I eventually want to do a Serbu-type project as well). I just bet its easier to find a C&R SXS that it is to find a never-had-a-shoulder-stock-on-it SXS.

I image people have done a ton of these and I'm hoping for some guidance on some good relatively inexpensive candidates.

OK, you want to make an SBS from a C&R host shotgun. If it ever had a stock, it is an SBS. Two identical appearing firearms, one could be an SBS if it originally had a shoulder stock, the other an AOW if it never had a shoulder stock.

The issue is that ATF seems to have changed their mind and is no longer approving Form 1s for SBSs built on C&R host guns. So, if the C&R SBS Form 1 option is gone, then then AOW route is the only option. Which means modern PG-only host guns, which is only Mossberg and Remington for the most part.

Thanks, Jack. I didn't realize the ATF was no longer approving those. Bummer.
