I agree Zouave or a two band enfield maybe?

I was just told that my friend received it about 30 years ago from his Grandfather, who supposedly found it in a river - maybe the Mississippi? I think he may have had it refinished years ago.

It appears to be an 1863 Remington Percussion Contract Rifle - otherwise known as a Zouave
