The essence of a new iteration of the "Justified" TV series on FX is the conflict between US Deputy Marshal Givens and a sociopathic killer and the whereabouts of the baddie's gun, which seem to be passed around quite a bit, is a major element. The gun, oddly enough, is an old Walther P-38, rather than one of the flashy contemporary pieces that are so evident in other action thrillers.

I always liked the P38's , cool pistol with lots of history...very reliable, I had a custom one done up a loongg time ago... a Man from U.N.C.L.E. clone...sold it in a weak momentSemper Fi. -
I instantly noticed the gun, too. But this bad guy who the cops know is involved in so many crimes yet is just too smart for them (so far), why keep using a gun that can easily be balistically associated with that drug dealer mass murder shown in flashbacks? He does not act smart which makes the cops trying to get him look really inept. I might keep watching but got turned off by the story angle with the kid who never obeys her dad. Yawn. Even if it is his real life daughter.Comment

post Nazi clones IIRC "P-1" with aluminum frame German Police trade ins use to sell dirt cheap. IIRC even in 2010 they were well under $300 in very good condition with vintage holster and mags package.Comment

From the description, sounds like an anti-2nd Amendment "blame the gun" and "follow the gun's crimes" agenda.
Picked a P38? Probably so they can show all guns are bad, even curio & relic items. Must ban/destroy all, even historical artifacts - because guns are bad, guns commit crimes, guns make people commit crimes.
If it weren't for guns, people would just sit around in a poppy-field all day and fart rainbows.

What a lot of people don't know is that after the mid 60s, the frames were made with an alloy and reinforced.
They are going up in price for some reason, but about 5 years ago, I picked up a P1 for $400 and it was virtually unfired. No marks on it at all.
As far as the P38/P1 in movies and TV, in the last scene of Dirty Harry, at the shootout at the mill, the bad guy was using one. Bonus note: The bad guy in that one was Andrew Robinson, the same guy that played Garek in ST: DS9. But that's just me nerding out on Star trek.Last edited by Supersapper; 08-09-2023, 9:25 PM.--Magazines for Sig Sauer P6

That's because the surplus price and incoming imports in the 1970s left over from WWII that were finally being let go around that time, made them so cheap, for at least those 2 decades.
Their value/pricing really started to climb substantially in the late 1990s.

I bought an "arsenally refurbished" P-1 in the early/mid 2000's (so basically a CPO P-1). It was hardly dirt cheap ($375 IIRC); but I had wanted a P-38 since I was a little kid, so a childhood wish fulfilled! Never fired it, if you can believe that. To this day I still think the P-38 is the best looking pistol ever made.
