Wayne Johnson Author of the seminal book about FN-49 rifles has died.

I just found out yesterday that Wayne Johnson AKA Goose52 on many internet firearms forums died late last year. Wayne was the author of both volumes of the book titled "FN 49 The Last Elegant Old-World Military Rifle".

I don't know any of the particulars about his death.

He was the most knowledgeable person related to these fine rifles.

I'm just so very sad. Wayne was a friend. He was always ready to answer any questions from anyone. He tirelessly posted replies on many gun forums to the most basic questions.

Thank goodness he left behind the two volumes of his book to memorialize his life's work documenting information about the FN-49 rifles.

I'm going to post a link to where his book can still be purchased, and my recommendation is to buy one, as when they are gone there will be no more.

Again, I'm in shock. Such a monumental loss to the community which loves these rifles and the C&R community at large.
    Poke'm with a stick!

It certainly is an elegant rifle, whenever I see them I am tempted.

My condolences it's always difficult when you lose someone you care about.

I bought the latest 2nd edition when it came out a few years ago, direct from the publisher (Wet Dog), which he signed.

I'm not exaggerating when I say it is the most complete, beautifully aesthetic, and well laid out firearms history book in my gun book library.

And it's not just a reference book - I read it front to back, and it reads like a historical novel of the FN49. I was just flipping through it the other night while looking over an auction online to verify authenticity, check numbers, etc.

It has been a great benefit to me, many times.

That book alone was a great contribution to the world, and leaves a wonderful legacy few can ever duplicate. It's testimony to the generously helpful person he must have been.

Condolences to you for losing a friend, and to everyone else who knew him, if not also to the entire gun collecting world.

I bought two copies of the latest volume. Excellent book.

          Very sorry to hear this.

Oh, not Goose, I never heard. And I'm still missing Ken Block.
Wayne Johnson's FN 49 book is absolutely stunning, for any kind of history book. I'm going to go grab it off the shelf now, in tribute to his incredible detail.

His passing was on Gunboards soon after his death. He answered many of my questions when I got my first Egyptian and when I picked up a 7mm & a Lux. I got an autographed copy too, great read. PAX

I bought a copy immediately after initially hearing about this. Excellent book and a great reference material.
